Worth a visit at anytime, the yacht harbor from Pythagorion. The new name was given after the famous "Pythagoras of Samos". In ancient times the metropole was called "Tigani". Near the airport and not all that cheap though. But also a nice place to shoot some pictures. There are some more excursions you can undertake while you are in this region. First there is the Tunnel of Evpalinos. And then there is Moni Spilianos on the way up to the tunnel. The Monastery Spilianos is partly build in to a deep cave. A little church is to be found on the very end of the cave. Please take care to be dressed properly as this is a holy place.
Next to visit from here would be the Temple of Hera. Ireon, the today's name of the village, lay's past the airport to the west from Pythagorion. Have a look at the City walls outside of Pythagorion. You can imagine how big "Tigani" once was. |
