So, here we are, down in Votsalakia and the mountain is glancing at us. Why
not go for a walk up there? The idea is good and the view sure stunning
but you should consider certain things before you start running
uphill.
First of all, what to wear? Good shoes, not slippers or anything like it,
take a shirt with long sleeves at list with you and for the top
a jumper would not be bad. it can get quiet chilly up there. Some
kind of hat is also a good idea. |

Then, what to take with you? Water! definitely water, about a big bottle
for each member of the tour. you can refill the water at Moni Evangelistria
right from the well. If you have a mobile phone, take it with you,
as well as your camera :-) If you take a sandwich with you, i know
a nice spot at 1443 meters to enjoy that.
At the monastery Evangelistria, the three nuns will provide you with a greek coffee,
if you want to walk inside to see the church, it's more then a thousand
years old, please take your shoes off and wear something appropriate.
Where to start? You can either start your walk early in the morning right
from Votsalakia or you can rent a car for a day and drive up to
a parking lot near the monastery. When i say near i mean, it's still
a good half'n hour walk uphill to get there. From Votsalakia Center
to the parking it will be about an hour and a half walk to the parking.

After your coffee break at the monastery, you just continue behind the
building and hold to the left and up you go. once you com out of
the forest, it will get steam and hot. this is the part you need
the good shoes for. After 1 1/2 hours about you will see a little
church. Cool inside and time for a break. the church is so old,
nobody really knows how old.
Behind the church the way goes through the 'swiss alps' at least it looks like
it. One more hour and you will see Samos island from above. the
last part though is kind of hard, as i said in the first page, the
last 43 meters are the hardest. Anyway enjoy your sandwich and take
care on the way down. all of the way is good marked with red dot's
but they are not so good to see on the way back down.
Have fun seeing Samos Island from above!
